Chronography of some works by Renato Guttuso painted in Velate: the archive of Nino Marcobi , the exhibition with which the Municipality of Varese wants to introduce further aspects of Renato Guttuso as a man and painter, revealing for the first time the phases of idealization and realization of some of his important works thanks to the archive of Nino Marcobi , a friend and trusted man of the Maestro in his studio in Velate.
The Marcobi Archive, which the heirs have recently donated to the Municipality of Varese, consists of an unpublished corpus of handwritten texts day by day by Marcobi while he witnesses the artist's work and daily activities, accompanied by an equally unique and remarkable heritage of materials documentaries and photographs, which allows you to get to know Guttuso's professional and relational activity in Varese in a new and in-depth way, not without lively notes and anecdotes, stimulating both for the artist's lover and for the enthusiast and scholar of art.
Thanks to the daily recording of Marcobi's "logbooks", it is possible to follow the development of the graphic studies and the subsequent pictorial drafting in progress, with modifications and rethinking, of large masterpieces made in Velate, such as Giocatori di scopone (1981) , Van Gogh brings the severed ear to the Arles brothel (1978) and the monumental telero di Spes contra spem (1982).
