GAM

The Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Turin , also known simply as GAM Torino, is a museum of modern and contemporary art in the Piedmontese city. Founded around 1891-95, today it houses permanent artistic collections from the 19th and 20th centuries .

Turin has had the merit, throughout history, of being the first city to begin putting together a public collection of modern art as early as 1863. This collection was originally located together with that of Ancient Art in a building near the Mole Antonelliana .

The Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Turin , designed by Carlo Bassi and Goffredo Boschetti, was inaugurated only in 1959 and the collection was consequently moved there.

The GAM holds over 45,000 works from the nineteenth century to today, including paintings, sculptures, works on paper, installations, videos and photographs.

Among the artists exhibited here are: Antonio Canova, Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega, Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, Antonio Fontanesi, Giacomo Grosso, Cesare Saccaggi, Antonio Mancini, Giacomo Balla, Filippo de Pisis, Mario Tozzi, Paul Klee, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Giorgio De Chirico, Lucio Fontana, Dadamaino, Felice Casorati, Carlo Levi, Pinot Gallizio, Nino Franchina and Domenico Valinotti.

The GAM offers the public a rich program: from major exhibitions of Italian and international artists to more contemporary research dedicated to young people .

A lively museum, capable of curating and proposing new projects, conferences, meetings as well as collaborating with the most important museums and institutions in the world.
