From 12 September to 15 December 2024
The exhibition is inspired by the reflection that we all need to have memories and to preserve those of childhood in a mental, secret, and intimate place. A childhood experienced, imagined, desired, or never had. Artists often reflect in a psychoanalytic way on this moment of life that can represent for each of us a cruel, sweet, different, and very important vital passage.
From the triggering memory of the Proustian madeleine, the reflection on the wonderful world of childhood and adolescence memories begins. A sort of delicate nostalgia, an ever-present desire to continue in that state of grace, a wish to relive in a different way that particular moment of life, resides in the invited artists who have idealized it and made it the central pivot of their research.
In Odonchimeg Davaadorj is the distant family that generates memories and desires expressed in precise nuclei of coupled bodies from which families and affective situations are generated.
Edi Dubien is still waiting for his share of childhood, which had been denied to him by his birth in a female body not accepted and changed into a male one through a gender change operation.
Julia Haumont desires to perpetuate a childlike situation of a "flower girl" in which that intriguing, perverse, and unconscious sexuality of Lolita is about to bloom.
Giusy Pirrotta inserts her personal world into the deep roots of tradition and ancestral magical practices where children's imagination can give space to dreams and desires, even the worst ones, in the form of nightmares. The overall fresco that emerges from this exhibition is that of an interrupted childhood in which everyone would like to find silence and serenity, distance and alienation from this world that terrifies us and deeply disturbs us.
