Set up on the first floor of the GAM, the exhibition retraces the career of Elisabetta Di Maggio, presenting historical works and new productions created specifically for the museum spaces.
The incision, a peculiar feature of Di Maggio's artistic practice, is both a means to explore the material, taking care of it, and a violent gesture that tears and does not allow the slightest second thought.
Her works - incised tissue paper walls, soaps sculpted like urban maps, wax and glass mosaics, delicate porcelain, plant elements, stamp mandalas - challenge the boundary between abstraction and figuration, between natural and artificial.
Perceptual instability is accompanied by a sensory immersion of smells, sounds, and contemplation. The exhibition opens with Annunciation (2025), two wings of oxidized copper dragonfly, and closes with Desiderale (2006), a video in which the film incision creates a starry sky.
The path, articulated in six rooms, explores themes such as mappings, cosmic and plant weaves, memory, the sacredness of nature, and hypnotic symmetries, conveying the artist's profound wonder in the face of the variety of organic and artificial forms.
