On October 23, the exhibition Cristian Chironi. Inhabiting the image will open in the Project Room at CAMERA, dedicated to exploring the privileged relationship between photography and performance in the multidisciplinary work of the Sardinian artist (Nuoro, 1974). Curated by Giangavino Pazzola, the exhibition includes a selection of photographic, installation, and video works - some of which are completely unpublished - tracing the artist's research from the early '90s to the present day, showcasing how his artistic practice is characterized by original strategies in constructing self-portraits, staging, creating characters, and setting the scene, key elements in generating the constructive and expressive value of the images. 

It is already evident from the works around the 2000s that for Chironi, photography is not just a tool aimed at capturing the action of the moving body: the innovative methods used in projects like Lina (2004) and Offside (2007) reveal the central role of photographic images in exploring the complexity of personal relationships and one's own identity, through the creation of a fictional imagery that alters the perception of reality. 

The performative action carried out in works like DK (2009), a project in which the artist tries to capture the aura of Antonio Canova's sculptures from publications and museum collections, or in others like Cutter (2010), where portions of images are removed by cutting pages from books, not only connect the individual sphere with global cultures but, through a progressive disappearance of the artist's body from the representation, allow for a new way of inhabiting the image that will characterize the years to come. Working on images found in books - and therefore on the knowledge of the world through them - questions the sanctity of the image in producing memory, creating new connections of meaning.
