The National Museum Collezione Salce in Treviso pays tribute to Renato Casaro, the king of movie poster artists, by dedicating one of the exhibition rooms at the San Gaetano museum headquarters in Treviso to him. In 2024, the Maestro donated to the Italian State, specifically to the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Veneto, National Museum Collezione Salce in Treviso, a collection of works he created during his decades-long international career: drawings, sketches, posters, and flyers.
"When Renato Casaro communicated his decision to us," says Daniele Ferrara, director of the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Veneto, "indicating the Salce Museum as the most suitable cultural context to host the testimony of his art, dedicated to the art of advertising, we naturally welcomed his will by naming a room in his honor and gratitude. The Renato Casaro Room will constantly host thematic monographs of the Treviso Master. The artist himself will curate these monographs with works taken from those donated to the museum and from his personal archive."
"We will thus have the truly precious opportunity," says Elisabetta Pasqualin, director of the National Museum Collezione Salce, "to deepen our knowledge of one of the most original poster artists of the Italian and international second half of the 20th century, and to follow the entire creative process of his works, from the initial sketches dictated by Casaro's meeting-discussion with different directors, to the sketches, to the scene images, to the lettering accompanying the images, and finally to the distribution of posters and flyers in movie theaters. As well as the different versions of the poster, which depending on the country where the film was shown, could change subject and appearance."
The Maestro himself, in a series of public encounters, will bring back to life the behind-the-scenes of his masterpieces, works that have become coveted by collectors in the industry and have provided the image, which has become a collective memory, for dozens of successful Italian and Hollywood films.
