The Civic Museum of Taverna is located in the historic center of the city, in the province of Cosenza. The museum is located inside the Dominican Cenobio of the fifteenth century, near the Town Hall. The Museum is famous for the rich collection of works by the painter Mattia Preti, born in the city of Taverna. The exhibition path houses works from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century and a small nucleus of contemporary art. Among the most famous artists are: the brothers Gregorio and Mattia Preti, Giovan Battista Spinelli, Antonio and Giovanni Sarnelli, Antonio De Bellis and Marco Minniti. The contemporary collection is divided into four different spaces and includes the artists Ercole and Lia Drei, Carmelo Savelli, Francesco Guerrieri and Alfonso Frangipane. A path is dedicated to artists born between 1900 and 1960, among the most important are Mimmo Rotella, Antonio Violetta, Francesco Correggia, Mario Parentela and Antonio Saladino. Today the Museum hosts cultural events, seminars and conferences linked in particular to the artistic figure of Mattia Preti.
