Medimex returns to MArTA and this time it does so by becoming an integral part of the permanent exhibition of one of the most important Archaeological Museums in the world.

From September 16th to January 23rd 2022 in the exhibition "Kevin Cummins: Joy Division and Beyond", it will be possible, in fact, to cross the threshold of time and find oneself in the 70s or in Prehistory, in the era of indie, of the new wave , of the acid house, or that of the great athletes of the ancient Tarantino gymnasium.

"It is a journey through time - comments the director of the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto, Eva Degl'Innocenti who closely followed all the phases of the original setting - among the collections of the Ori, the portrait of Ian Curtis, lyricist and singer of the Joy Division, with its inevitable cigarette, that of Steven Patrick Morrissey under the Iron Bridge in Manchester at the time of the Smiths, and the collections of Apulian red-figure vases. It is the distant and near past that communicate with each other and send a message towards the future ”.

The exhibition tells the story of an epic season for music, but also the epic of rebirth of a city like Manchester which at the end of the 70s was a place pervaded by a sense of melancholy and defeat, the one immortalized by the legendary photographer Kevin Cummins in the more than 50 silver salt photographs on display at the MArTA.

"Culture and the redemption of a city - says Eva Degl'Innocenti - how not to find similarities with what has been happening in recent years in Taranto, more than ever determined to leave behind, as did the English city, that sense of defeat and frustration ”.

Thus from MARTA, a symbolic place of rebirth, Medimex launches one of its most important signals: looking to the past, to other European models, to plan for the future. And the Museum's claim “past for future” seems to underline this.

An emotional tension, between past and future, which in some Cummins shots is perceived with greater force, as when his camera focuses on the four founding members of Joy Division with an old Victorian building behind them.
