From 14 April to 31 October 2022
Senigallia City of Photography presents the personal exhibition of photographer Roger Ballen, The Place of the Upside Down curated by Massimo Minini, in the double headquarters of Palazzo del Duca and Palazzetto Baviera, promoted by the Marche Region and the Municipality of Senigallia, in collaboration with the Massimo Minini Gallery and the Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi Foundation.
The exhibition is produced by the Municipality of Senigallia as part of the “Senigallia City of Photography”, a project that stands out for the creation of high-level original exhibition events dedicated to photographic art. Roger Ballen's exhibition will be the only one in Italy this year in a public museum in addition to his participation in the LIX Biennale in Venice where he will represent South Africa in his own national pavilion.
At Palazzetto Baviera instead a selection of 12 color shots is exhibited, absolutely unpublished in Italy and coming from the artist's personal collection, which marks a new phase of technical experimentation in his poetics.
In recent years Ballen has approached color photography for the first time after shooting exclusively in black and white for more than fifty years, and the Senigallia exhibition, with the Palazzetto Baviera section, represents a unique opportunity for the Italian public to admire these works live.
