From March 22 to July 21, 2025, the historic Fortezza Firmafede in Sarzana will host the exhibition "Giorgio de Chirico. The Metaphysics of Creation", curated by Lorenzo Canova. 

Produced and organized by the Metamorfosi Association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Sarzana and the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation, the exhibition presents a selection of fifty important works, including paintings, works on paper, and sculptures from the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation in Rome, which effectively represent the research of one of the greatest painters of the Twentieth century, who has influenced and continues to inspire artists of the younger generations worldwide.

The exhibition retraces the last ten years of de Chirico's life and his connection with the complex and versatile creative phase of Neometaphysics. 

Painting, drawing, sculpture, and graphics, the works on display tell a period of intense creativity of the artist, in which his works are not simple repetitions of the past, but represent a new and brilliant phase of ideas and revelations.

De Chirico reinterprets his metaphysical youth period by mixing it with the suggestions of the works from the Twenties and Thirties. 

The exhibition path focuses in particular on the lithographs born from the precious collaboration between de Chirico and the printer Alberto Caprini, a partnership from which an extraordinary graphic corpus originated, expressing the full creative maturity of the neometaphysical period.

Thanks to this connection, de Chirico was able to explore with freedom the transition from drawing to printing, reworking with rigor and finesse his most famous iconographies.

In fact, with the independence of the master who can now play the great game of art, he mixes the stylistic variations of his different periods and intertwines them in a skillful and coherent set of juxtapositions and variations, where a more "classic" vision alternates with certain expressive deformations typical of the works from the Twenties in Paris, taken up precisely in the neometaphysical period.
