The Alte Galerie is a Saarbrücke museum dedicated to regional Saarland art. It is based in the Kreisständehaus, a historic building in the heart of the city, where the archaeological museum is also located. The core of the collection derives from the ancient Local Museum of the city, founded in 1924.
In addition to the numerous works showing the artistic development of the region since the Middle Ages, the Baroque princely tombs and stained glass windows by Georg Meistermann are also particularly noteworthy. The museum also houses the largest collection of Ottweiler porcelain, a significant collection of silver objects and snuff boxes, valuable paintings and local works of art closely linked to the history of the city of Saarbrücken, such as portraits of l ' princely era or evidence of the Franco-German war. In early 2020 the Alte Sammlung received a magnificent donation from a private collection: 17 precious and extraordinary 18th century tobacco boxes, mostly made in Paris.
