The Moderne Galerie is a museum in Saarbrücke, one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary art in southwestern Germany. It is housed in a modern building designed by the St. Ingbert architect Hanns Schönecker and built in three construction phases between 1965 and 1976, which has now become a historic building due to its high architectural and historical status.
La Moderne Galerie preserves a rich collection ranging from Impressionism to the present day. The collection shows the rich dialogue between the German and French artistic currents, also due to the position on the Franco-German border of the city of Saarbrücke. The painting of the Berlin Secession, German Expressionism and the art of the École de Paris and Informel form the main focus of the works in the museum. The large graphic collection has about 18,000 works. The collection also includes a collection of photographs, the core of which derives from the legacy of Monika von Boch, a pupil of Otto Steinert.
The museum regularly organizes exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.
