The Quirinal Stables are home to exhibitions and cultural events and represent one of the most active art places in Rome. In addition, the building of the Quirinal Stables together with the Palazzo del Quirinale and that of the Consulta constitutes the extraordinary urban space at the center of which is the fountain with the statues of the Dioscuri and the obelisk found in the nineteenth century near the Mausoleum of Augustus. . The building maintained its original function as a stable until 1938. In the 1980s it was transformed into a museum of carriages. Between 1997 and 1999 it was completely restored to a project by the Friulian architect Gae Aulenti. The stained glass window designed by Gae Aulenti is certainly one of the attractions of the Roman exhibition venue. Intended as an important exhibition space, it currently hosts large international exhibitions and is one of the most visited venues for temporary art exhibitions in Rome. The programming of the Scuderie del Quirinale focuses on a popularization program of classical and modern Italian art (just to mention some of the great exhibitions: Caravaggio, Antonello da Messina, Lorenzo Lotto, Filippino Lippi and Sandro Botticelli, Tintoretto, Tiziano) as well as on relationship between Italy and great international art with exhibitions on Rembrandt, Metaphysics, Velazquez, Bernini, Luca Giordano, From Giotto to Malevic. Mutual wonder, Dürer and Italy). Extraordinary exhibition events that always have the advantage of a double reading: extremely enjoyable and understandable exhibitions for the public and, at the same time, historically and artistically rigorous and innovative.
