Before leaving for Japan, where she will exhibit at the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Francesca Leone presents at GNAM the imaginative reconstruction of an autobiographical desert, drawn from dreams and memories. The installation Zzz...desert immersed in a composition of sounds and nature noises, evokes the arid landscapes of the artist's father's films. A set of metal sculptures, representing desert rocks and bright roses, is accompanied by the music of Marco Turriziani, which combines the buzzing of bees with the whisper of the wind and metallic reverberations. Francesca Leone's creative practice is nourished by the poetics of reuse, therefore she recovers waste materials, especially the sheets sought insistently in abandoned construction sites and places, which testify to the relentless action of time. Time, which with its relentless passing, has eroded, rusted, and oxidized the surface of the sculptures, becomes a co-author of the works that the artist shapes and paints with care. In the rocks and roses, decidedly vital color tones are measured against degradation, to regenerate the material. Animated by a cultivated ecological consciousness, the artist surpasses the action of time, giving new life to the metal. The exhibition is realized in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo, which for the occasion has loaned one of the roses that make up the installation. The other two, donated by Francesca Leone to GNAM, will become part of the museum's permanent collection and will then be exhibited in the Aldrovandi Garden.
