A silent revolution will be held from 5 November 2021 to 19 April 2022 at Galleria Corsini. Plautilla Bricci painter and architect, the first solo show dedicated to the painter and architect Plautilla Bricci (Rome, 1616 - post 1690).

The exhibition, curated by Yuri Primarosa, brings together for the first time the entire graphic and pictorial production of the artist, presenting a Portrait of an architect (likely effigy of Bricci), alongside masterpieces also unpublished or little known by the masters of her closer.

The discovery of unpublished documents on the life of Plautilla, the identification of new works and the restoration of her architectural projects preserved in the State Archives of Rome (exhibited for the first time together with a new panel from a private collection), allow to shed new light on this fascinating figure of artist, the only female architect in pre-industrial Europe.

The exhibition shows an ambitious project by Bricci for the steps of Trinità dei Monti (1660), the vast lunette she painted for the Lateran Canons (1669-1673) and two other paintings of hers preserved in Poggio Mirteto, restored for the occasion: the Banner of the Compagnia della Misericordia depicting the birth and martyrdom of the Baptist (1675) and the Madonna del Rosario (1683-1687) in the cathedral.

The exhibition closes with an exceptional loan: the altar painting depicting St. Louis IX of France between History and Faith painted by Plautilla for the chapel of St. Louis (1676-1680) in the church of the French, entirely designed by the architect for Abbot Benedetti, next to the Contarelli chapel.

The catalog accompanying the exhibition, printed by Officina Libraria, contains the essays by Yuri Primarosa, curator of the exhibition, and by Melania Mazzucco, author of L'architettrice, and the contributions of some of the major specialists of the artist and his cultural context : Aloisio Antinori, Carla Benocci, Maria Barbara Guerrieri Borsoi, Riccardo Gandolfi, Gianni Papi and Magda Tassinari, offering a new and updated monograph on the artist.
