On the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2023 (23-24 September) this year focused on the theme "Heritage InVita", the Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum belonging to the State Museums Directorate of the city of Rome directed by Massimo Osanna, gives life to the exhibition project The Artists House / The House of Artists. The "living" art of Sally Smart in collaboration with PostmastersROMA.

The exhibition is curated by Matilde Amaturo, Valentina Filamingo, Eugenia Carabba Tettamanti, Paulina Bebecka. Sally Smart is a leading contemporary Australian artist recognized internationally for her installations, performances, videos and textile works that address the intricate relationships between the body , thought and culture. Her works often use cutting, sewing and assemblage techniques to create complex, layered images.

The spaces of the Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum, an early twentieth century eclectic style villa inhabited until the Seventies by a branch of the Boncompagni Ludovisi family, become the "home" where the works of Sally Smart and the arts evoked by her works live: the ancient Greek and Roman tragedy, the Commedia dell'Arte of the 16th century, the Ballets Russes of the early 20th century.

Each of his works - now artisanal embroidery, now assembly, now sculpture in bronze and fabric - dances with mythology, archetypes, psychology, customs, theatre. Fauns, ancestral figures, harlequins, mythological faces roam the spaces of the dedicated museum to the fashion and customs of the 19th and 20th centuries, they meet the works of the collection, they integrate into the museum settings, they compare themselves with the Flemish tapestries of the 17th century and with the archaeological suggestions in the trompe l'oeil of the Hall of Views which recalls the glories of the ancient Horti Sallustiani and the disappeared Villa Ludovisi.
