From 7 February to 5 March 2023
The review brings together different materials, authorial video works and documentary films that convey all the strength and vitality of actions often born spontaneously and purely experimentally. From the lunge on the works of two great Italian masters such as Pier Paolo Calzolari and Luigi Ontani we move on to the story of the different declinations of the language of performance based on the space in which it is born and takes shape.
Videos of actions carried out in the home, in the artists' studio or outdoors - such as those made by Alighiero Boetti, Luciano Fabro, Laura Grisi, Joan Jonas, Marisa Merz, among others - alternate with films made on the occasion of performances held in galleries, alternative or institutional spaces. Other important moments and operational contexts are brought to light through materials from the Archives of the ASAC-Biennale di Venezia, the Video Art Center and the Luciano Giaccari Video Library Archive, relating, among others, to the works of Christina Kubisch, Federica Marangoni, Michele Sambin .
The review closes with a focus on services and broadcasts conserved in the RAI Teche archives which open the reflection on the diffusion and reception of the Performance within a wider general public, thanks to the sensitivity of registers such as Emidio Greco or Alfredo Di Laura.
