The exhibition project, promoted and organized by Professor Andrea Romoli Barberini, art history teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, by Dr. Andreina Ciufo Guidotti, art historian and author of the new monograph on the artist, and by Dr. Andrea Ungheri, son of the artist, creator of the exhibition and President of the Cultural Association Friends of the Beating Lung, focuses on the figure of Saverio Ungheri, a Calabrian artist, active on the Roman scene of the second half of the 20th century, from 1950 until his passing in 2013 in Rome. Saverio Ungheri is formed and inserted into a cultural fabric characterized, in art, by avant-garde research that had found new momentum and vigor since the end of the Second World War. The allure of abstract art, almost a revelation for younger artists, who could thus attempt to align themselves with the most advanced experiences from abroad, was progressively asserting itself, also prompting the conversion of many figurative painters and the emergence of groups like Forma and Origine. While remaining on the margins of these experiences, observing them from a privileged angle, Ungheri sometimes allows himself to be influenced by them, but through a highly selective filter, to become a bearer of a pictorial and sculptural style of great originality within that same landscape. His mainly pictorial production is accompanied by research in the field of sculpture, which will become a distinctive feature of his contribution to the Astralist movement and to that of Bionic Art.
