From 14 December to 10 March 2024
The MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts launches a Collection dedicated to contemporary Design, a new line of research of the Architecture Department, presenting the first acquisitions to the public (from 14 December 2023 to 10 March 2024, Gallery 2).
Twelve studios and individual designers are joining the Collection: ANONYMOUS ARCHITECTS AND CRAFTSMEN; STUDIO BLOCK; GHOSTFORMER; STEF FUSANI; KOSTAS LAMBRIDIS; MAXIMILIAN MARCHESANI; JASPER MORRISON; OBJECT OF COMMON INTEREST (OoCI); OLDER STUDIO; REHUB; MARTINA TARANTO;STUDIO PLASTIQUE - SNØHETTA - FORNACE BRIONI.
The new Collection is divided into five categories, also defined thanks to the contribution of Joseph Grima, architect, curator, founder of the Space Caviar studio and Creative Director of the Design Academy of Eindhoven. The intention is to accurately photograph the current scene of design.
These are the sections: Industrial design, projects that combine refined aesthetic quality with mass production; Collectible Design, when the author does not just design the sketch and then deliver it to the company that produces it but works directly on the creation of the work, obtaining a unique example or a limited series, Anonymous Design, those objects whose importance lies not so much in their aesthetic value, as well as in their functional value and in the role they assumed in a particular historical moment; New materials, projects that take up the crucial challenge of integrating innovation and sustainability into design; Digital design, which addresses new media and their constant evolution.
