From 14 June to 29 September 2024
Quintessence is the project by the Grazzini Tonazzini Colombo group, winner of the new edition of NXT, the MAXXI program dedicated to promoting a new generation of architects and enhancing public space.
Conceived as an abstract volume with strong plasticity, Quintessence is a sequence of vertical planes in galvanized sheet metal, a scenography, a changing and reflective device through surprising water features. A place designed to host the Summer at MAXXI but also a space for relaxation, play, and learning during the visit and stay in the outdoor areas.
The silvery tones of the cladding, on one hand, recall those of the concrete and pillars of Zaha Hadid's structure and, on the other hand, are a reference to the industrial history of the square where it is located. The choice of materials, which come from a previous use or are intended for reuse after the dismantling of the installation, is a way to minimize the ecological impact of the entire intervention.
