The exhibition Giuseppe Salvatori. Centuria, promoted by the Department of Culture of Rome Capital and the Special Company Palaexpo, organized by the Special Company Palaexpo in collaboration with the Palatine Association, will open on February 19, 2025 at Pavilion 9a of the Rome Slaughterhouse. The exhibition, curated by Matteo Di Stefano, retraces the work of the last thirty years of Giuseppe Salvatori (Rome, 1955). Over these three decades, the artist has favored the cycle formula to prevent the dispersive fragmentation of works whose peculiarity often lies in the close relationship with literary narration, both classical and contemporary. Works, therefore, always anchored to a cultural reality but also permeated by a personal experience that transfigures the vision into singular representations. The journey begins with the unpublished cycle Centuria, which gives the title to the exhibition, composed of one hundred and five portraits - profiles of the different and inexhaustible figures of the artist's life: a work in progress in which floral motifs transform into faces, leading us into a territory of enchantments. Facing Centuria is the work Il Fiore (2024), an allegory directed towards amorous seduction, a continuous contrast between movement and stillness, between the miracle of conquest and the sadness of loss. Crossing the room dedicated to the Bullfighters, silent guardians, profiles of symbols and color, you enter the main space of the exhibition, where the different techniques experimented by the artist are visible: 13 works, not exhibited in chronological order, make up an overall panorama of this thirty-year period, from the tempera and acrylic on canvas of The Thieving Magpie (1990) to the thicknesses of vinyl tempera on board of Nuptial Flight (2023). The journey continues in the back rooms: two installations, those of Seventh Heaven and Magic Book, take us back to the beginning of the last decade, in the galleries La Nuova Pesa (2011) and De Crescenzo Viesti (2013), where the works were presented for the first time. Continuing through the unpublished cycles dedicated to the costumes for Losing Love, a video installation from 2024.
