From 24 January to 2 March 2025
Palazzo Merulana, home of the Elena and Claudio Cerasi Foundation, managed and enhanced by CoopCulture, is pleased to present Aleardo Paolucci. 1927-2013. Between Pienza, Siena, and Rome on the traces of Pio II, curated by Laura Bonelli.
Aleardo Paolucci, the painter of Val d'Orcia, the painter of Pienza, gave all of himself to narrate the beauty and magic of his land.
Passed away in May 2013, he was the subject of a series of celebrations with the project Landscapes of the soul - Paolucci. The painter, started in 2023 and continuing until 2027.
The exhibition at Palazzo Merulana represents the third stage of an exhibition path that started in Siena at the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex, continued in Pienza, the artist's hometown, at the Collegio San Carlo Borromeo, and now arrives in Rome, in the jubilee year.
It was chosen to set up 54 works created by Aleardo Paolucci on the occasion of the 6th centenary of the birth of Pope Pius II Piccolomini and exhibited for the first time on that occasion, in 2005, for less than a month, at Palazzo Piccolomini. The paintings depict significant moments in the life of Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini, inspired mainly by the Commentaries, autobiographical memories rich in details and suggestions.
The exhibition, developed in the three locations, therefore constitutes a real itinerary that, starting from Siena and passing through Pienza, finally arrives in Rome, the city of the Popes. A journey that explores the ideal journey of the Pope, from his youth to the peak of his career in Rome, and emphasizes the deep connection with his cultural and territorial roots.
