From 12 October to 8 February 2026
After representing Poland at the 59th Venice Biennale Art Exhibition in 2022, in the majestic project titled Re-enchanting the World, Polish-Roma artist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas returns to Italy with The Big Dipper Will Foretell the Future of the Roma [Il Grande Carro predirà il futuro dei rom], an original exhibition conceived for the Maramotti Collection based on a collection of images, stories, and documents related to the history of the Roma and Sinti in Italy.
Drawing from old photographs and family albums, oral testimonies and conversations, books, and archival sources, Mirga-Tas intertwined the lives and figures of the Sinti community in Reggio Emilia with her own intricate narrative of the Roma people, experiencing significant moments of encounter, knowledge, and collaboration.
At the origin of the conception of the exhibition project was the strong connection with traveling shows and carousel management, a profession passed down from generation to generation that the artist identified as a specific characteristic of Romani culture in Italy. Inspired by the world of amusement parks, her new exhibition appears joyfully vital, yet inevitably marked by a sense of transience, the memory of persecutions and forced displacements suffered by Roma and Sinti, who have often historically been denied stable housing.
