From 18 April to 30 June 2024
The exhibition Io, Giacomo by the artist Antonio Greco was inaugurated on Thursday 18 March in the Stanza del '900, an exhibition space dedicated to modern and contemporary arts located on the floor of the Library of Casa Leopardi. Greco's solo exhibition took shape in 2014 from the meeting between the artist and Vanni Leopardi, the Poet's great-grandson and custodian of his memories. A coincidence that gave birth to a true friendship between the young painter and his descendant.
Greco's work, through a subtle game of calculated associations and references between Leopardian objects and places of affection, investigates the most important existential themes: the passage of time, the split between the unconscious and nature, the conflict between earthly existence of all human things and the vivifying power of the imagination.
Some of the objects dear to Giacomo Leopardi come to life in this scenario, revealed by a selection of works full of meaning: his books, the armillary sphere, the silver skeleton, the clock and the chessboard; elements of the Recanati genius's daily life observed from another perspective, that of the artist's sensitivity which returns them to the spectator's gaze as elements full of different symbols, intertwined with the various aspects of life.
