The show

Opening: April 27th

Curated by Alessandra Dragoni

The exhibition offers a selection of photographs from a first and partial survey of the fund Arrigo Dolcini, acquired by the Classense Library of Ravenna. Born in 1908, from the late '40s up to the early' 70s, Arrigo Dolcini worked as a photographer mainly in Marina di Ravenna, in Romagna, in a studio that was also a film shop: Foto Nettuno. From there it moves to photograph weddings, baptisms, birthdays, a bit of news but above all the beach of Marina di Ravenna, where people love to be portrayed on the water's edge. The importance of conservation of this material lies in its documentary connotation, which today appears clear to us.

The curator and photographer Alessandra Dragoni, emphasizes the importance of this aspect, siding with the photographer, trying to understand its look and method, finally enhancing what has emerged to be the main quality of Dolcini, ie the inclination to the human, which manifests itself explicitly in the portrait, both in the studio and outdoors. Those in the exhibition are images that refer us to contemporary or just previous classics of photography, revisited when necessary, in a more naive but always compelling style. We still hear the taste of the novelty of photography, in the work of Dolcini, emerges in the portraits a naturalness that leaves us surprised.
