Located at Rua de Costa Cabral 716, on the border between Antas and Paranhos, the Casa-Museu Fernando de Castro was the residence of the Portuguese collector, poet, and caricaturist Fernando de Castro (1888–1946). After his death, his sister Maria da Luz donated the house and collections to the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, which curated its opening to the public.
The modest exterior conceals a sumptuous interior: the rooms are embellished with elaborate talha dourata (gilded woodwork), paneling, mirrors, shelving covered with paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and sacred objects that create an effect of aesthetic excess, typical of late Portuguese romanticism.
The museum houses religious works, naturalistic paintings (including Silva Porto, José Malhoa, António Carneiro, Henrique Pousão), sculptures, ceramics by Bordalo and Teixeira Lopes, and a collection of caricatures created by Fernando himself. The original arrangement is still preserved: each room reflects the collector's taste and the atmosphere of his time.
