The Arqueossítio of Rua de D. Hugo, located in the heart of Porto's historic center, is an archaeological site and museum that tells over 2,500 years of the city's history. Here you can admire numerous archaeological layers, ranging from proto-history with an ancient Iron Age settlement, to the Roman remains of the city of Cale, passing through medieval periods such as the Suebi and Visigothic. This unique place offers a journey through time through the different phases of urban development in Porto.
The site is located in a Gothic building, now home to the regional section of the Order of Architects of Northern Portugal, and represents an important center for the study and documentation of urban archaeology. Visitors can directly explore the evidence of the city's layered history, thanks to a path that makes visible the traces of past civilizations.
