From 25 April to 29 September 2024
For the 86th Anniversary of the Foundation of Pomezia, the Municipality of Pomezia and the City of Pomezia Museum - Laboratorio del Novecento, in partnership with the Rotary Club Pomezia Lavinium, and on a scientific project by Claudia Montano, present a solo exhibition dedicated to the artist and sculptor Alessandro Stenico. Born in 1939 in Trento, academic artist of international standing, Alessandro Stenico chose to live and work in our territory, leaving a conspicuous artistic legacy and educational commitment in Pomezia, where he taught for many years.
The exhibition “STENICO'900 – Man and the Archetype” introduces significant aspects of a long career that deserves to find, primarily in the place of adoption, a narrative of weight and value. The working and creative memory on which the Mostra project works is therefore linked to the memory of the City, with the desire and intent to mend and show the public the strong thread that binds both in an inseparable path. “The idea of a project that brought into museum spaces a strong reminder of the importance of origins, of the founding value of genesis”, declares Claudia Montano, “is one of the main reasons why my choice fell on a solo exhibition dedicated to the artistic career of the award-winning academic sculptor Alessandro Stenico, capable of establishing continuity between past and present with his works. A pupil of Marino Marini and Umberto Mastroianni, a multifaceted artist in the use of materials and techniques, Stenico nourishes his inspiration with a fascination for the archaic and the archetypal.
In him the reference to the symbols of ancient civilizations, to the primordial, is a stylistic choice with a strong aesthetic connotation, but in the formal recognizability of the sign there is the arrival at a multiplicity of stratifications of meaning that explore the ethical value of art and the absolute necessity for man to preserve memory of his origins, of his origin from chaos. In his sculptures the artistic and formal tension develops in a cognitive intent in which the terms of Man and Nature interact in a sort of intimate and profound flow of consciousness, in which the indissolubility of the infinite filiations of being with the matrix is expressed primordial of life".
The exhibition will present more than 50 works including sculptures, drawings and etchings. The inauguration ceremony, with ribbon cutting by the Mayor of the Municipality of Pomezia, Veronica Felici, and the sculptor Alessandro Stenico, will be held on April 25th.
