From 8 February to 14 June 2020 Pistoia Museums Foundation in collaboration with Pistoia - Dialoghi sull'uomo, festival of contemporary anthropology, and Contrasto, presents Exodus. Walking on the roads of migration, personal exhibition of the great photojournalist Sebastião Salgado .

The exhibition, curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado and composed of a corpus of 180 photographs, tells the story of our time through the dramatic and heroic moments of individuals, and asks us an important question still unanswered: on our journey towards the future are we not leaving behind a large part of mankind?

For years, the Brazilian photographer has documented mass migrations, returning with his shots the existential condition of millions of men who have been able to break the ties with their roots, looking for themselves on a journey to other places.

It has now been nearly a generation since these photographs were first exhibited, yet in many ways the world they portray has not changed.

Today's refugees are only the most visible victims of a global process that demonstrates how much everything that happens on Earth is connected, from the growing gap between rich and poor to population growth, from the mechanization of agriculture to the destruction of the environment, from changes climatic to fanaticism exploited for political ends.

Poverty, natural disasters, violence and wars force millions of people to flee their homes every year, forced to live in refugee camps that most of the time expand to become small towns, and investing all savings, and often even life. , to pursue the dream of a Promised Land.
