From 22 April to 22 October 2023
Giorgio de Chirico is back on display in Pistoia after 40 years. The famous painting Mannequins by the sea will be exhibited from 22 April 2023, as part of the In visita project, within the permanent 20th century collections of Pistoia Museums at Palazzo de' Rossi. The exhibition has the support of the Caript Foundation and the collaboration of Intesa Sanpaolo.
At the height of his success, in 1926, De Chirico created this emblematic work of his new artistic season, where he combined the theme of classicism with the themes of the first Metaphysics. The exhibition compares Mannequins on the seashore with the head of Faustina maior, a masterpiece sculpture of Roman art (2nd century AD) until now kept in the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi and now once again on display to the public.
After the first appointment of In visita, which featured two Kore by Fausto Melotti and Pomona by Marino Marini, now the curators Monica Preti, Annamaria Iacuzzi and Cristina Taddei bring into dialogue two chronologically distant works, both from the Collections of Intesa Sanpaolo.
