The 2024 of the Pistoia Musei Foundation will be decidedly Pop, the new cultural reality of the Tuscan city which strengthens the museum system project promoted by the Caript Foundation.
It will be inaugurated by the great '60 Pop Art Italia exhibition, scheduled at Palazzo Buontalenti from 16 March to 14 July 2024.
The exhibition, curated by Walter Guadagnini, presents 60 works that reconstruct the events of Pop Art in Italy, through its major exponents, including Mario Schifano, Tano Festa, Franco Angeli, Mimmo Rotella, Mario Ceroli, Pino Pascali, Fabio Mauri, Jannis Kounellis, Renato Mambor, Titina Maselli, Giosetta Fioroni, Laura Grisi, Roberto Barni, Umberto Buscioni, Adolfo Natalini and Gianni Ruffi. The loans come from museum institutions such as the MaCro in Rome, the Gallery of Modern Art in Turin, the MART in Trento and Rovereto, the Collezioni Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, the Intesa Sanpaolo Collections and from important private collections.
The exhibition itinerary is configured as a journey to the main Italian centers of radiation of this purely metropolitan phenomenon, born in London in 1956 and developed simultaneously in New York, Los Angeles and then in Europe, to the point of becoming the main artistic expression of sixties of the last century.
An itinerary among those cities - such as Rome, Milan, Turin, Venice, Palermo and Pistoia - which have allowed, through a fortunate series of connections, to create fertile ground where Pop culture could take root, thanks to the activity of private galleries, of the art critics who have forged relationships between Italy and the rest of the world, of the collectors, magazines and public institutions who have been able to grasp the news and give them the right importance.
