For the first time, the city of Pesaro is dedicating an exhibition to the great painter and engraver Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606 Leiden - 1669 Amsterdam).

On Saturday 18 December at 12, at Palazzo Mosca - Musei Civici inaugurates "Rembrandt engraver" with over one hundred works that tell the graphic production of one of the greatest artists of all time. The retrospective, curated by Luca Baroni, is promoted by the Municipality of Pesaro - Department of Beauty, in collaboration with Sistema Museo and The Art.Co., and can be visited until 27 March.

The exhibition occasion is unique and special. The work of the great Dutch artist is very rare in Italy; the exceptional quantity of sheets present in Pesaro is due to the generous contribution of private collectors, all residing in the Marche region, who have decided to make some of their most precious treasures available to the public to spread the knowledge and passion for engraving .

The itinerary unfolds by themes, starting with the presentation of the protagonist in the Portraits section, among which the self-portrait with hat (1638) and the one with his wife Saskia (1636), executed immediately after the wedding, stand out. We continue with the representation of the body, male as well as female, dressed or naked, as in the example Diana in the bathroom (1631), and we get to the heart with a room dedicated to the theme of the Night, animated by the evocative nocturnal settings in which Rembrandt famously excelled. And again, the scenes from the Old and New Testament, among which the famous Deposition (1633) and the Death of the Virgin (1639), and, in the last room, the suggestive figures of the Craftsmen and thinkers. Among these stands out an exceptional sheet, the well-known Erudito nella studio (also known as 'Doctor Faustus', 1652), who inspired generations of artists (from Goethe to Victor Hugo to Ingmar Bergman) and who was chosen, with his aura of mystery, as the cover image of the exhibition.
