The Museo del Tulle, dedicated to Anita Belleschi Grifoni, is housed inside the Church of Sant’Agostino, built in the 14th-15th century. The museum space displays needlework on tulle fabric, also known as Ars Panicalensis: bridal veils, christening gowns, stoles, gloves, and table linens with delicate floral designs. A museum dedicated to a purely feminine art. Starting from the 1930s, the Panicalese Anita Belleschi Grifoni took over this tradition, perfecting the craftsmanship, simplifying the stitches, and introducing much more elaborate designs. Grifoni was convinced of the economic and social potential of this traditional female craft, so she decided to establish a real school. She then created the brand Ars Panicalensis, through which this art became known worldwide. The affordable cost of each product turned Ars Panicalensis into a prestigious commodity among noble families and the upper-middle class, counting prestigious clients such as the House of Savoy and the Torlonia Princes.
