The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology, located at Kjelsåsveien 143 in the Kjelsås area of Oslo, is the largest Norwegian museum dedicated to science, technology, industry, and medicine. Founded in 1914 and relocated to the current building designed by Rolf Ramm Østgaard in 1986, it is a key stop on the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
The permanent exhibitions cover over 25 exhibition themes, including the history of Norwegian industry, transportation (cars, trains, airplanes), hydroelectric power, medicine, music machines, and computing and information technology techniques. Among the most famous pieces are the oldest working steam roller (1878), the first airplane, and the first motor vehicle in Norway.
It also houses the Oslo Vitensenter, an interactive center for children and young people with over 100 hands-on installations, laboratories, experiments, 3D printing, and coding for young explorers. Of particular note in the medical collection is the exhibition Life and death, which stimulates reflections on the present and future of health.
