The IBSEN Museum & Theater, located at Henrik Ibsens gate 26 in the center of Oslo, is housed in the last apartment of Henrik Ibsen, where the famous playwright lived the last eleven years of his life and composed his final two works: John Gabriel Borkman and When We Dead Awaken.
The original apartment has been faithfully restored with period furnishings, colors, fabrics, and floors, reconstructed through historical research and the support of the Ibsen family. A guided tour every hour (in Norwegian and English) goes through the adjacent theater stage and the permanent exhibition "I'd Rather Ask", which explores Ibsen's life, works, and cultural context.
The museum offers a unique immersive experience to understand the inner world and artistic routine of Ibsen. The long section dedicated to his desk in the ornately decorated living room, the living room overlooking the Royal Palace, and the meticulously recreated rooms evoke the playwright's daily life between 1895 and 1906.
