From 22 November to 9 March 2025
The magical and the mythological, classical tradition and archaic culture blend in the research of the Swiss artist who experiments with materials of strong expressive value in a choral narrative with epic nuances. Deities of the earth and night, arcane symbolisms, beneficial properties of plants, and ancient botanical wisdom permeate Una Szeemann's work with mystery and, at the same time, with atavistic memories, while the wild feeling of the woods takes shape in abstract yet powerfully evocative forms. The project for MAN is connected to the territory of Sardinia, its ruggedness, the legend of the Janas, and the archaeological persistence in the landscape, where nature itself sometimes seems to fossilize, blending in with the stones and ridges of Supramonte.
Una Szeemann (Locarno, CH, 1975) lives and works in Zurich and Tegna. She completed her acting studies in Milan. Her works have been exhibited in numerous international shows, including at Kunsthaus Zürich, Kunsthalle Winterthur, Museo Cantonale d’Arte di Lugano, Kunstmuseum Luzern, Kunstverein Hamburg, Belvedere 21 in Vienna, Venice Biennale, Busan Biennale, Lyon Biennale, and Manifesta 11 in Zurich. She teaches at academic institutions such as Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK), Haute École d’Art et de Design in Geneva (HEAD), and other universities.
