Pausilypon Archaeological Park

The Pausilypon Archaeological Park is an archaeological site located in the Posillipo district of Naples .

The entrance to the park is through the Grotta di Seiano. According to the story it is thought that this is the place where Publi Vedio Pollione , after the battle of Actium, spent his last days. From this episode derives the name Pausilypon that is " pain relief ".

Near the Villa there is a small theater with 2000 seats and today you can admire their remains.

The villa directly overlooks the protected neighboring area of the Submerged Park of Gaiola . The park offers many naturalistic and landscape testimonies with the most important finds including: the Grotta di Seiano , the submerged park of Gaiola , the imperial villa of Pausilypon , the Odeon theater and the Palazzo degli Spiriti .

The Seiano cave is certainly the most important attraction. The cave is a tunnel, dug in Roman times, and used to connect the different villas that were in Posillipo in ancient times. Today it is possible to visit the submerged park of Gaiola through boat excursions. The submerged park of Gaiola was declared a marine protected area in 2002.
