With Rethinking Nature, Madre inaugurates a new format, in which the concept of an exhibition meets that of a multidisciplinary platform. The project investigates through the gaze of contemporary art themes of political ecology and the ethical need to build a new relationship between human beings and the ecosystems of which they are part, declining a shared critical thinking through new productions of works and a programming of events and workshops involving artists and researchers of different geographies and sensitivities.

The exhibition, which runs through the entire third floor of the museum, opens with works by Italian and international artists who reflect on the historical roots of a colonialist vision of nature as a permanent reserve to be appropriated. A series of sculptural projects and videos bring the analysis to the present day, illustrating today's practices of exploitation of natural resources which, protected by government and multinational policies, suppress the critical demands of numerous minorities and weaken delicate and complex ecosystems. Multidisciplinary practices focused on spirituality, ecological healing and traditional knowledge continue the exhibition, articulating the urgency to develop ethical relationships with the environment and the planet. Presenting projects that combine ancestral knowledge with practices of social and political activism, the exhibition path offers new interpretations of nature, articulating critical vocabularies and ecological approaches that free themselves from colonial and Eurocentric legacies.

Among the artists participating in the exhibition and programs: Maria Thereza Alves, Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan, Adrián Balseca, Gianfranco Baruchello, Adriana Bustos, Sebastián Calfuqueo Aliste, Cao Minghao and Chen Jianjun, Jimmie Durham, Denise Ferreira da Silva and Arjuna Neuman, Fernando García-Dory, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Gidree Bawlee, Edgar Heap of Birds, Karrabing Film Collective and Elizabeth Povinelli, Sam Keogh, Francois Knoetze, Elena Mazzi, Ana Mendieta, Marzia Migliora, Jota Mombaça and Iki Yos Piña Narváez, Sandra Monterroso, Niccolò Moronato, Tabita Rezaire, Zina Saro-Wiwa, Karan Shrestha, Buhlebezwe Siwani, Yasmin Smith, Ivano Troisi, Tricky Walsh, Zheng Bo.

The project will be accompanied by an illustrated catalog, which will include new critical contributions and an unpublished series of discussions with invited artists. A program of events, conversations and workshops will develop throughout the duration of the exhibition, deepening key themes and involving artists, researchers, and activists through a multidisciplinary and participatory approach.
