Emblem of Nancy's Art Nouveau architecture, Villa Majorelle is a villa built between 1901 and 1902 for the French designer Louis Majorelle. Inaugurated as a museum in 1997, the villa was the first entirely Art nouveau building in Nancy and testifies to the successful collaboration between Parisian and Nancy artists. The villa was built to a design by Henri Sauvage, but we find the names of Jacques Gruber for the stained glass windows, Alexandre Bigot ( who had achieved fame for the sumptuous facade of the Lavirotte building in Paris, finished in 1901) for the sandstone , by Francis Jourdain and Henri Royer for the paintings and, of course, Majorelle himself for the furniture. The exterior of the villa features an abundance of ceramic, metal and wood decorations. The service entrance, on the east facade, has a liberty style portal and a decorative portico. Even the gutters and fireplaces have an Art Nouveau touch, with finishes in vegetal shapes, thus becoming part of the decoration. Inside the house, over 100 pieces of furniture, paintings and art objects , coming both from the collections of the Museo de l'École de Nancy and from the Villa itself, convey the atmosphere of an Art nouveau interior.
