MOCO - Montpellier Contemporain is an exhibition space in Montpellier dedicated to contemporary art. It is an extremely recent project, since it was inaugurated in June 2019. It is a polycentric space, in which there are both exhibition spaces and an art school. The exhibition spaces, in particular that of the Hotel des Collections, are created for the display of international public and private artistic collections, normally inaccessible to the general public. The idea of combining an art school and a museum dedicated to international collections comes from Nicolas Bourriard, co-founder of the Palais de Tokio in Paris and former director of the Ecole Nationale Supéerieure des Beaux-Arts, in Paris. At the moment this is a unique artistic model, which gives a strong push to the city of Montpellier in the context of contemporary artistic creation. MOCO stands as a real artistic ecosystem, in which every phase of artistic production is present, from training, to production, to exhibition and collecting.
