The Museo della Madonna del Parto in Monterchi is a place dedicated to the protection, study, and enhancement of one of the most famous works of the Renaissance: the Madonna del Parto by Piero della Francesca. This masterpiece, considered one of the highest expressions of fifteenth-century painting, is displayed in a protective case to ensure its preservation and can be admired in an environment that enhances its artistic and historical value.

The fresco, created around 1455, was originally located in the church of Santa Maria di Momentana, a small sanctuary located in the countryside of Monterchi. In 1785, an earthquake severely damaged the building, leading to its gradual abandonment. To preserve it, in 1911 the restorer Domenico Fiscali carried out the first detachment of the work, which was then definitively removed in 1992 for conservation reasons and transferred to the museum specially set up in the historic center of Monterchi.

The museum tour is enriched with multimedia supports, explanatory videos, and insights into the technique and pictorial language of Piero della Francesca, offering visitors a complete understanding before encountering the work.

Inside the museum, it is also possible to admire the Madonna del Latte, a small fourteenth-century fresco attributed to an anonymous local author. This work, also discovered in 1911 by Domenico Fiscali during the detachment of the Madonna del Parto, represents a delicate image of the Virgin with the Child.

In addition to the artistic experience, the museum offers a bookshop area and a charming panoramic garden, a true balcony overlooking the countryside of Monterchi, ideal for a relaxing moment after the visit.
