At Palazzo Santa Margherita, the first Italian solo show of the Net Art pioneers Eva & Franco Mattes will also be inaugurated (until February 26, 2023 ). Most to Least Viewed , curated by Nadim Samman .
The exhibition focuses on data, power and identity, areas that have long characterized the work of the two artists, presenting a spectrum of recent works, selected by a mysterious algorithm and arranged in sequence from the most viewed to the least seen. As always with their art, which mirrors the information society, things are not what they seem. For the duo, the tension between surface effects and deeper conditions proves to be fertile ground for imagination and criticism.
Eva & Franco Mattes are a couple of Italian artists living in New York. They are among the first artists to use the Internet as a medium to create art. Through videos, installations and websites, their work reflects and dissects our condition of hyper-connected life, often exposing its deepest ethical and political implications with black humor. Their works can be found in the collections of SFMOMA, Whitney Museum of American Art, Fotomuseum Winterthur, X Museum and Walker Art Center.
