From 18 September to 11 January 2026
From September 18, 2025 to January 11, 2026, Pirelli HangarBicocca presents "Entanglements", the solo exhibition of Yuko Mohri (Kanagawa, Japan, 1980; lives and works in Tokyo), a Japanese artist who has always been interested in the transformative nature of everyday and organic elements to produce visual and sound changes and to bring to the public's attention, through fragile assemblages and interconnected systems, fundamental themes related to the environment and social coexistence, as global challenges of our society.
Known for her intricate and original assemblages, Yuko Mohri creates site-specific kinetic sculptures that incorporate found objects and everyday items, drawing from the experience of Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968), or musical instruments that she reworks and connects to electronic circuits in response to imperceptible, transient, and ephemeral phenomena such as gravity, magnetism, heat, and humidity. These random and unstable environmental elements, specifically air, dust, debris, and temperature, shape her compositions, turning them into organic ecosystems, where the sound component is central.
The exhibition "Entanglements" is the most extensive solo exhibition of Yuko Mohri ever held in Europe. The title, literally "entanglements, tangles", evokes the invisible connections and complex interactions that exist between objects, forces, sounds, and people. The exhibition explores how each element present belongs to an interconnected system in which nothing acts independently and everything is part of a large network of relationships in continuous evolution. Her sculptures show, with delicate balances, the latent complexity of natural and artificial structures that make up the world and reveal the constant flow of energy that surrounds us. Thanks to the materials she uses, Mohri manages to introduce a subtle irony and a playful almost hidden dimension, drawing on her cultural (including references from philosophy and pop culture), iconographic, and sound (from kinetic art to sound experiments) influences.
