From 24 November to 27 March 2022
The Piet Mondrian exhibition. From figuration to abstraction, at the MUDEC in Milan from 24 November 2021 to 27 March 2022 , for the first time in Milan, an exhibition project entirely dedicated to the Dutch artist and the artistic evolutionary process that led him from figuration to abstraction, from tradition of the Dutch landscape to the development of its unique style , which made it unmistakable and universally famous.
The exhibition dedicated to Piet Mondrian, promoted by the Municipality of Milan - Culture with the patronage of the Consulate of the Netherlands in Milan, was created thanks to the collaboration of the Kunstmuseum Den Haag , holder of the most important collection of Mondrian's works in the world, and which he has lent sixty works , chosen from those by Mondrian, artists from the Hague School and designers De Stijl. Also on display are two works by Mondrian from the Museo del Novecento in Milan - an example of the few works by the artist in Italian collections - and a neoplastic painting from the National Museum of Serbia in Belgrade.
The paintings by Piet Mondrian (1872-1944), for which the Dutch master is famous as the undisputed pioneer of "abstract" art, are actually the result of a long search for balance and formal perfection, of a progressive stylistic evolution which has its starting point in naturalism and impressionism and which then gradually passes through post-impressionism, the fauves, symbolism and cubism. In this context, a central, albeit less known, part of his production is landscape painting : images that particularly depict characteristic aspects of his native Holland. Prevailing throughout the first phase of his career as an artist, landscapes are subsequently approached by Mondrian with a variety of styles and techniques that attest not only the influence of various artistic movements, but also his search for personal expression .
