The Vico Magistretti Studio Museum Foundation presents the exhibition The Conquest of Space, curated by Matilde Cassani, Gabriele Neri and Luca Poncellini of the Scientific Committee of the Vico Magistretti Foundation.

Vico Magistretti was among the protagonists of the exhibition Italy: the New Domestic Landscape, organized at the MoMA in New York in 1972 to celebrate Italian design. Seven products designed by Vico are present in the Objects section, dedicated to the most paradigmatic objects of Italian design of the period according to the curator Emilio Ambasz. To date, there has been no trace of Magistretti in the other section of the Environments exhibition, where the installations of twelve Italian architects and designers illustrated as many housing proposals for the future. But the archives - as we know - are an inexhaustible resource and that of Vico does not exception. Magistretti had in fact also proposed a concept around the theme of future living, but the project had not been selected by the New York museum and had only remained on paper: in the Foundation's archive, in fact.

Although drafted in an embryonic form, with unresolved doubts and some theoretical reservations - "I don't know how it can be achieved" or again: "I don't believe in the problems of the very distant future", writes Vico - the project offers many ideas on its approach to the theme of live, through drawings and notes.

The central point is "the conquest of space" - Magistretti's words - that is, a lifelong reflection on the optimization of spaces in our homes, to offer a good quality of life even in small spaces.
