A traveling installation created by Vitra, dedicated to Jean Prouvé, allows you to rediscover the story of one of the most significant architects of the twentieth century, his approach to projects, structures and materials, and last but not least his sensitivity for color.
Much admired by influential contemporaries such as Le Corbusier, Fernand Léger and Alexander Calder, the work of Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) is among the most illustrious in the world of design and includes an extremely wide range of objects, from letter openers to door accessories and windows, from luminaires and furniture to facade elements and prefabricated houses, from modular construction systems to large exhibition structures. The famous architect used industrial tools and was inspired by new materials such as sheet metal, plywood and polymers, but also by the possibilities offered by the most recent production methods to respond to furnishing and building problems.
On the occasion of a visit to Paris in the 1980s, Rolf Fehlbaum, President Emeritus of Vitra , bought a vintage Antony Chair by Jean Prouvé, dating back to 1954; the purchase marked the beginning of the world's largest museum collection of the French designer's furniture and objects now curated by the Vitra Design Museum . In close collaboration with the Prouvé family, selected designs subsequently entered serial production at Vitra, with the intention of making them accessible to a wider audience.
