Alveare Culturale (Fabbrica del Vapore) hosts Claudia De Luca's solo exhibition titled: What Do Shadows Do When They're Not Cast? from January 17 to February 7, 2025.

This provocative and fascinating question is the pivot around which Claudia De Luca's entire artistic research revolves in this exhibition. It is an interrogative that resonates as an invitation to explore the invisible, to question what escapes us, what we do not see but perhaps perceive. Shadows are not just voids or dark spaces, but places where potentialities hide, unrealized possibilities, moments that elude our immediate understanding. Claudia De Luca's works serve as a sort of map to explore these liminal spaces, those moments that escape our usual gaze, that interval between the visible and the invisible, where reality and dream merge and overlap.

In this context, the artist does not limit herself to portraying what has already been, but focuses on the before, on the potential that precedes the completed act. Just as Damien Hirst sought to capture the unrepeatable moment of death, symbolized by his famous Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living, the shark in formaldehyde, Claudia De Luca aims to crystallize that moment that eludes our perception: the not yet, the possible that has not yet materialized. It is no longer the completed act that is at the center, but what precedes it, the moment when the future is still open, shapeless, but already laden with meaning.

In her work, shadows become protagonists, they distort, elongate, dance, becoming signs of a reality that is unknown to us. Her works seem to want to reveal something to us that, although within our reach, eludes us every time we try to fully comprehend it. And in this "eluding" lies their strength. Shadows are not mere absences, but spaces of potential that invite us to reflect on what remains hidden, on what is not visible to the naked eye, but still exists, like a silent part of our world.
