He worked with architects and designers such as Portaluppi, Libera, Gio Ponti, Caccia Dominioni and Magistretti , he was a fundamental trait d'union between architectural design and building construction, he founded a company which at its peak managed 3,000 workers and twenty large construction sites at the same time. It is Antonio Bassanini (1899 - 1997) entrepreneur and builder who with his work contributed after the war until the seventies, to the reconstruction not only of Milan but of the entire country. The Ambrosianeum Cultural Foundation is dedicating the presentation of the book Antonio Bassanini to him on Monday 14 November at 18:00. Builder of the twentieth century (Silvana Editoriale, 2019) which tells his professional and personal story.
Introduced and coordinated by Marco Garzonio, President of the Ambrosianeum Cultural Foundation, the meeting sees the participation, alongside the authors Andrea Strambio De Castillia and Giovanna Franco Repellini, of the entrepreneur's children Chiara and Franco Bassanini - president of the Astrid Foundation - by Regina De Albertis president of Assimpredil ANCE, of the journalist Ferruccio De Bortoli and of the director of Caritas Ambrosiana Luciano Gualzetti.
The presentation of the book is also an opportunity to remember the forthcoming inauguration, on 5 December 2022 , of the Antonio Bassanini exhibition. Builder of the twentieth century , in the spaces of the ADI Design Museum in Milan until 15 January 2023 . Both the volume and the exhibition underline the indissoluble link between architecture, engineering, design and building entrepreneurship, and the fundamental role of a builder like Bassanini.
Raised under the guidance of Arturo Danusso, master and friend for life, father of twentieth-century Italian structural engineering and the use of concrete, in the early 1920s Antonio Bassanini founded his company, which in a few years became one of the most efficient and reliable in the country. Thanks to his collaborations with architects and designers - from Portaluppi to Libera, from Gio Ponti to Caccia Dominioni, and also Mattioni, Magistretti, Figini and Pollini, Asnago and Vender - Bassanini's work has been a fundamental trait d'union between architectural design and building construction, working with a company that at its peak managed up to twenty large construction sites simultaneously and 3,000 workers. Using innovative materials, cutting-edge machinery, new construction techniques and excellent business organization, Bassanini built homes, industries, offices, churches, hospitals and infrastructures that changed the face of Milan and all of post-war Italy.
