From 25 February to 4 June 2023
Kunst Meran Merano Arte is dedicating its next exhibition to Typoésie , a French term that combines “typography” and “poetry” in reference to the practice of composing texts focused on aspects such as harmony, precision and balance. The protagonists of the exhibition are two friends with close ties to Merano, Heinz Waibl (1931-2020) and Siegfried Höllrigl (1943), who have perfectly mastered this practice.
Typoésien – Heinz Waibl, Siegfried Höllrigl is the first posthumous retrospective of Waibl and the largest exhibition of Höllrigl, and is ideally linked to the complex research that in 2019 Merano Arte dedicated to product design in the Alpine area ( Design from the Alps ), focusing this time on the graphics.
Kurt Schwitters said: The goal of all forms of typography is to create relationships. This statement perfectly describes what Heinz Waibl and Siegfried Höllrigl have managed to achieve with their works – be it graphic design or manual printing – in a direct, recognizable and immediate way.
Among the most important exponents of Italian graphics of the twentieth century, Heinz Waibl came from the analogue and artisanal tradition of the Bauhaus aesthetics and then turned, thanks to the teachings of the Swiss graphic designer Max Huber, to his first experiences in the world of digital communication and marketing in great design centers such as Milan and Chicago.
