At the Technology & Maritime Museum, the history of Malmo is exhibited in various sectors, from transportation to industry. You can enter a submarine, discover the most interesting Swedish inventions, and listen to a mechanical jazz orchestra. The museum is actually one of the collections of the Malmo Museum.
In the section dedicated to cities of all times, you can explore the history of Malmo and its evolution, from an industrial city in the first half of the 19th century to the present day. In the small internal cinema, films and documentaries related to the different eras of the city are screened. Don't miss the jazz orchestra, composed of six completely mechanical automatons, whose live performance is repeated every Sunday afternoon.
In the section dedicated to muscles and engines, you will find some historic vehicles, including a horse-drawn tram, a tractor, and a steam locomotive, as well as documents illustrating the transformation from machines powered by human or horse power to engines fueled by gas and electricity. In the Smart room, there is information on the most famous Swedish inventions, including the first implantable pacemaker invented in 1958 by Rune Elmqvist. The museum also includes a covered play area dedicated to children.
